XKL was nearly the first MMA event in Dubai

Holding UFC 112 outdoors is in Dubai is a pretty novel concept. A concept so novel that I wish I thought of it first. I wish I thought of who won the Superbowl first, the point spread and the over and under. I wish I would have thought about inventing a time machine and going into the future to steal one of those sportsbooks, Back to the Future II style.

The Canadian based organization, XKL (Xtreme Kombat League) press released their organization would be the first to hold an MMA event in Dubai. It was scheduled to go down February 20th and featured Jeff Monson, ex-UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez, Corey Hill and Vinny Magalahes as the headliners. Last week, the bout was mysteriously pushed back to March 20th and the venue was changed to The Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Michigan. No explanation was given on their website, it just miraculously happened over night probably while I was passed out on my friend’s sofa. If XKL went down on it’s scheduled date, that would have given Jeff Monson exactly five days to recover, travel from the Middle East to Brazil and train for his opponent at Bitetti Combat 6, Glover Teixeira. Yeah, impossible is an understatement. Here is the video of XKL promoting the debut of MMA in Dubai that never was.
