Let Brent Weedman tell you why he is confident going into his fight with Rick Hawn

Brent Weedman can’t enjoy his newborn son for very long right now since he’s training for a pretty important fight. When he does get a chance to spend time with his son, who he described as an “animate bag of flour” he mostly just “keeps him alive and stares at him a whole bunch”. If you’ve ever spent any time at all with a newborn child then you’ll agree that description is pretty much spot on. They only really eat, sleep and poop, not always in that order and sometimes all in the space of a minute, which can be pretty hard to keep track of. Bellator can sometimes be just as hard to keep track of, althought it doesn’t quite drop as much poop for you as a newborn child does.

Before fighting for Bellator, Weedman fought on four of Wild Bill’s Fight Nights where the majority of his opponents went down like wounded oxen. I’m not going to judge an event held in a place called “Wild Bill’s”, I’m sure you’re all going to do that yourselves anyway. The point is, it isn’t just against the guys that fight at Wild Bill’s that were getting stopped by Weedman. He’s a great striker, but he’s often happy to show people he isn’t just the kickboxer he is made out to be. That’s one of the reasons he feels he can do well against Rick Hawn at Bellator 70 this Friday in the lightweight final. As he told Brian Hemminger at MMAMania.com, he feels his best strength going into this fight is his versatility and explained why he is confident that he can beat Hawn.

“I’ve been taking advantage of jiu-jitsu and takedowns in my recent fights but it’s cool to be able to dramatically switch up the gameplan against someone like Rick Hawn and still feel confident. I don’t think there’s anywhere he can take me where I’m like, “Oh as long as we’re not on the ground, or as long as we’re not in the clinch or as long as we’re not in the pocket,” I’m actually cool with any of it. It’s fun. We get to draw up a gameplan for a totally different opponent.”

I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t already be super pumped for Bellator but you can read the rest of the interview over at MMA Mania if you think it will get you more hyped for Weedman vs Hawn at Bellator 70 on Friday night. [source]
