Junior dos Santos is still that scary dude that reigns atop the UFC heavyweight division

If you were ever sent to prison and needed a gang to affiliate with, choose the one Junior Dos Santos is in. Trust me. You may get beat up once from another rival gang, but once Junior Dos Santos hears about it — that guy will be dead, whoever he is. Junior dos Santos doesn’t have any personal demons. He’s defeated all of them with an array of straight jabs and devastating upper-cuts. Junior’s personal demons have personal demons — and it can be directly attribute to the ferociousness he displayed at UFC 146 against Frank Mir.

I was fortunate to have a press seat directly next to where Junior dos Santos walked by as he entered the Octagon to defend his UFC heavyweight title for the first time. The look on his face was simply unexplainable. Imagine Frank Mir traveling to the afterlife and open-palm smacking every one of Junior dos Santos’ ancestors. That’s the type of disdain dos Santos displayed on his face as he forcefully made his way inside the cage. That was some metaphysical hate, folks.

While Frank Mir seemed to have a strategy of immediately taking dos Santos and slapping a submission on one of his limbs, it simply didn’t work against Brazilian. After Mir attempted to single-leg dos Santos and then roll into a heel hook, the champion strolled away and waved his finger at Mir, giving him the heads up that it’s just not going to happen. Junior then used his mastodon hands to precisely pick apart Frank Mir with enough straight jabs and counter hooks to wobble the fighter in the first round. While on the ground, dos Santos chose to finish up the fight with one of lazy hammerfist to the face, Mike Russow vs. Todd Duffee style.

Props goes to the champion on his first successful title defense, and giving the world something to talk about until UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II goes down within these same MGM Grand Garden Arena walls. Now check our the .gif of the dominating finish provided by ZP.
