Sandstorm blasted, the light show was cool, but try as he might, Wand could not use the powers of his Brazilian crowd to fuel him to a win over Rich Franklin. Although Wand was tentative to put it mildly at times, the fight was a fun back and forth that ended up with Rich Franklin’s new haircut muffed and Wand’s face looking like an orc from Warcraft. Not an orc from Lord Of The Rings or Warhammer, or even The Elder Scrolls, specifically Warcraft.
Round one was back and forth with stiff shots on the feet from both fighters, round two saw Wand flatten Ace into an Axe Murderer’s nightmare – an opponent downed and dazed but with no way to stomp or kick (Pride rules this fight is over). Ace recovers between rounds (although he admits to not remembering anything until the fifth round in the post fight speech) then give Wand his own taste of the end of round medicine and delivers some nasty hellbows as the third round expires.
Round four features a tired Wand and a jabbing Rich, the only real highlight was this. Then the fifth round displays more of the same, jab and circle until Wand asks the crowd to fuel his primal rages. They oblige him then he goes all berserker a few times on Franklin to no avail. The fight ends, Ace wins again, and Wand apologizes to the crowd for not finishing Rich in the second round. It’s OK, Wand, we still love you.
