Joe Lauzon just made a room of executives at FOX extremely happy tonight in his performance against Jamier Varner at UFC on FOX 4. All of this is an assumption, of course. I didn’t install spy cameras into the fake plants on the office table or astral travel to Studio City in Beverly Hills to see what these dudes were doing. I just can’t imagine a scenario in this universe in which people wouldn’t be on the edge of their seat during the entire duration of the bout.
I know some of you may have an issue with the ‘bro hug’ that occurred at the start of the third round. Look folks, men show other men love. It’s just an existential fact of life. Both fighters just exchanged improvised explosive devices in the form of wild jabs, powerful hooks and insane knees. They deserve a little love in-between rounds — and I didn’t see you in the Octagon with your arms extended.
Props to Joe Lauzon on the ridiculously stunning win and hopefully we can see him be Jon Jones’ next opponent. Weight is just a number.
