Let’s not forget this actually happened during Bellator 106…

We can’t even begin to tell you the amount of animosity shared between Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney and newly-crowned Bellator lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez. It’s a long history of beef that we simply don’t have the time to cover in this brief article. However we can tell you that what occurred this past weekend at Bellator 106 is essentially a PR/logistical nightmare for the promotion.

The obvious, Tito Ortiz dropping out of his main event against Rampage Jackson was a huge blow to Bellator, and the promotion was forced to scrap their first PPV event and instead revert their card back to Spike TV. Pat Curran, a guy Bellator had their eyes on heavily promoting lost his featherweight belt to Daniel Straus, who may be facing prison time for felony possession of ecstasy and marijuana earlier this year. Next up was King Mo’s performance against Emanuel Newton — and judging by the amount of print/online promotion Spike TV has approved over the years along with the TNA wrestling tie-in, they were really hoping that Mo would be the next Bellator light heavyweight champion. Of course, let’s not forget the Eddie Alvarez saga. His entire MMA career was trapped in limbo due to a contractual dispute that forced both parties to publish documents online for the public to see. Eddie Alvarez was forced to give up a potential million-dollar pay day with the UFC, and instead had to resign with Bellator under a contract that forced Eddie to defend the belt if he defeated Chandler at Bellator 106, or he would be released if he lost. Judging by that blatantly clear negotiation, Bjorn Rebney thought Chandler would defeat Eddie and then Alvarez would go to UFC on a 2-fight losing streak.

Well, those plans were thwarted — and judging by this .gif, Bjorn Rebney was not happy at all. Also according to one of the winners of the Bellator 106 ticket contest we held on MiddleEasy, Bjorn waited until the cameras stopped rolling to place the belt on Eddie Alvarez.
