BJ Penn opens up about retirement, TUF 19 Finale, and Mike Dolce’s services

A month ago BJ Penn lost his third fight against Frankie Edgar at the The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale and subsequently retired from MMA. It’s also been exactly a month since any of us have heard from Nick Robertson. After the first couple of days we figured he was just on a bender to sooth his grieving heart, but now we’re a little bit worried. We’ve been leaving Old Fashioneds under a cardboard box with a stick all around Los Angeles trying to lure him back into our loving arms, but have had no success. Probably because after about 20 minutes we lose patience and drink them ourselves.

Yesterday afternoon BJ Penn finally talked about his life since the TUF 19 finale and his preparation for his final fight. He also shredded Mike Dolce, who apparently isn’t the Christ-like nutritionist that he has often been made out to be. Dolce is kind of like the Rasputtin of the UFC right now. Dude even corners you in EA UFC, which makes no sense to me because if this guy is fighting at 170, then Mike Dolce isn’t doing his job. Here are some of the highlights from the interview.

On Retirement: “I’m the kind of guy that can keep himself busy. I don’t like to just sit around the house and do nothing. I love working, I love staying busy. I’ve just been trying to focus on what’s best for the website and focus on what’s next for all the gyms I got coming up.”

On the stance/style used at TUF 19 Finale: “That boxing style, I’ve been using that for the past year and a half, two years, and we had a bunch of training partners come in and I did well with everybody (…) As far as how we were doing in training, using the style that we used in the fight, we were doing great. We had no problems training with anybody. There was nobody that just came in and wiped us out or anything like that, so, you know? That’s about all I can say about that.”

On Mike Dolce:

“As far as Mike Dolce goes; I would never hire him again for anything.”

You can read the rest of the interview over at bjpenn.com, and be amazed at how the interviewer apparently hates pronouns.
