Meathead Goes “A Little Hood” on Derrick Lewis’ head

When it comes to fighter nicknames, there are some that just stand above the rest. UFC Fight Night 50 saw two of those nicknames come together to clash head-to-head when UFC up and comer, Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis decided to call out vet Matt “Meathead” Mitrione. Lewis’s last seven fights ended in KO wins for the heavyweight slugger, with an eighth being ruled a No Contest—also due to strikes, but due to the back of the head. So it’s safe to say “The Black Beast” isn’t afraid to stand and bang or call out Mitrione twice. What Lewis didn’t know is that there was an underlying there to MMA fights tonight, and that underlying theme was Pro Wresting Tributes.

You know who did know about the theme? “Meathead.” The fight started and “Meathead” swarmed on Lewis and reached deep into his playbook (past the ‘Hip-KO-move’) to pull out a Lex Luger-esque forearm smash to KO “The Black Beast” in the first round. Mitrione went on to say in his post fight interview that he “got a little hood” in the training camp leading up to this fight. I hope that’s true. And in the spirit of that I quote one of my favorite philosophers, DMX, “Don’t start no sh*t! Won’t be no sh*t!”
