Viking in Chief Alexander Gustafsson is willing to fight Anthony Johnson in January

Now that Adrian Peterson has been charged with flaying a child with a tree branch, Alexander Gustafsson can officially be deemed the sports world’s favorite Viking. In this video interview with KammakazeTV, the Norse heir apparent even stands inside a domed sports facility. Let’s assume for a moment that his choice of venue is an implied jab at Peterson’s beloved Metrodome, a retired structure that literally collapsed under the weight of snow in 2010.

But the legitimacy of Gustafsson’s Norse crown is already being challenged by Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Johnson has been using Twitter to hype a potential matchup.

“Well, he challenged me, he wants to fight me, and I’m down with that,” he said. “I want to fight him too. We’re just waiting for conformation, a date and where.” He doesn’t take Rumble’s aggressive social media campaign personally. “He’s doing a good job. That’s just part of the business.”

Gustafsson speculates a January fight might be possible. He’s even open to fighting before the end of the year. But he admits his knee still needs some work. In the meantime, he’s musing about the upcoming fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier. Alexander expects Jones to outwork the Olympian.

“I’m very excited to see that fight,” he says. “DC is a great opponent for Jones. But I still believe that Jones has his reach, his momentum to win the fight.”

If a January date works, Alexander may end up fighting on a card with Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier. But only if a grumpy Alistair Overeem doesn’t snap Jon’s legs in half during some light rolling.
