Nick Jonas: Face of the UFC

The official magazine of the UFC is featuring a shirtless, mean-mugging Nick Jonas on its cover. As you know, Nick is the youngest of the Jonas Brothers, the band that broke up last year and made you sing Hold On in the fetal position between sobs, while questioning the existence of God. He’s also the guy who grabbed his junk in a photo shoot for Flaunt Magazine’s “The Grind Issue” last month. No need to click that link if you already own a copy.

At first glance, this all seems horribly wrong, especially considering the magazine includes articles about Johny Hendricks and Fabricio Werdum. Both men are capable of pushing out their biceps and glaring at passersby from a miniature cage at a newsstand. They also actually fight for a living.

Of course, the UFC presumably likes the idea of appealing to a broad audience, and Nick plays a fighter on “Kingdom,” the DirecTV series about an MMA gym in Venice Beach. But does that make this jarring intrusion OK? Does signing a television role and cutting some body fat erase all those years of being the antithesis of a guy like Johny Hendricks? Should a man be allowed to rebrand himself so quickly? I say no. 1,000,000 screaming thirteen-year-old girls say yes.
