Light Heavyweight Fighter = Lightweight Drinker. Bellator vet Joe Vedepo head butts a cop into the hospital

Two weeks ago, Jody “Joe” Vedepo lost via TKO to Muhammed Lawal at Bellator 131.  And this weekend, he was arrested while refusing to leave an Iowa sports bar at two in the afternoon.  His blood alcohol concentration was 0.241.  Public intoxication is illegal in Iowa, and they don’t award style points for tripling the legal driving limit just two hours after high noon.

“Don’t you know who I am?” one can imagine him saying.

“Bella-what?” an officer answers, adjusting his UFC sunglasses, and forgetting that Vedepo has fought there as well.

During the arrest, Vedepo head-butted one of the cops in the chest, a power move that injured the officer’s back and sent him to the hospital.  Then they shot Joe with a Taser.  It was “ineffective.”

Of course, if Johnny Cash were chronicling this story, he might have just changed the words to a Boy Named Sue. After all, a boy named Jody probably has a similar chance of experiencing a violent life of masculine overcompensation.  Just kidding of course, but according to the local news outlet, Vedepo does have a “lengthy criminal history in Iowa, with convictions on drug and theft charges and multiple counts of public intoxication.” At the time of the report, he was in custody on a $10,000 cash-only bond.
