Junior Cigano defeats Stipe Miocic in a hard-fought decision that we don’t necessarily agree with

One million MiddleEasy points or whatever they’re called to anyone who can tell me the true etymology of barnburner in the context of a fight. I know this was a barnburner, but where did that phrase come from? Someone enlighten me? For now, I’ll lean back in my $79.99 office chair (I splurged, baby) and let the rays of awesome that were generated by JDS vs Miocic wash over me, cleansing me.

It was wonderful. The two heavyweights had a pace for 25 minutes that rivaled fighters 70 pounds lighter. Stipe beat up JDS, while GooD Guy Junior battled back with a heart and determination only shown by a professional fighter who has had to overcome a career of magnificent face-puffiness.

It was a classic on FOX, and it was probably the best, pure MMA fight we’ve seen in a long time. Each punch was violent. Each man was looking to end the fight with a punch, not win the round. It was a hellacious display of violence and a back and forth battle that will go down in the hallowed halls of heavyweight MMA history.

The decision, however, might be disputed. I had it Miocic 3-2, but the three judges cageside had it the other way. In a fight like this, however, both men are winners and they see their stock shoot up. All the better that it was on FOX.
