LAS VEGAS, Nevada, Dec. 21, 2014 — In the wake of last night’s final frame for 2014 there are still a lot of questions as to where the UFC goes from here, but there was one huge story that slipped through the cracks. A good journalist follows every possible lead, but cannot post until there are at least two viable sources. This may go against my personal and professional code of ethics, but the truth here is that Dave Meltzer is a very reliable source of news and information within the world of MMA [note from the editor: he also has links to fake professional wrestling].
According to Dave Meltzer last night the UFC has signed the former bass player for the Police and current pop superstar Sting. That’s right, Sting. The man who played Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in David Lynch’s foremost masterpiece of Dune has signed with the UFC. Sting — at 63 years of age — also known as Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner — is perhaps best known for his work in the world of music, but will now be making his way to the Octagon according to a tweet from Dave Meltzer.

While there is no timeframe given for the 63 year old, one has to imagine that his biological clock is indeed ticking away and that he’ll want to make his UFC debut before the age of 64. I was unable to find height and weight statistics for Sting, although I was able to find some for a man named Steve Borden, who plays a character called Sting in the WWE, but was unable to find anything for the musician. My best guess for his height and weight would have to be about 5’8” and 145lbs of lean muscle, placing him comfortably at Featherweight, although I could see him cutting down to Bantamweight with ease.
It all depends on his age and condition, though.
UPDATE: In this journalist’s rush to publish what was breaking news before another outlet scooped up the story there was a grievous error made where I, Philip J. McHenry, made an error in judgement.
Dave Meltzer had sent a follow-up Tweet (which was not included in the original tip email sent to me) that he was “Just kidding.”

The shame that this journalist feels right now is insurmountable. This being my first major, high profile job and making such an error in just my third story for this site. I’ve tendered my resignation and am awaiting everyone’s decision. I’m so sorry. I’m so ashamed.
