A naked “Rowdy” Bec Rawlings takes an important stance on human rights

UFC veteran “Rowdy” Bec Rawlings took an important stance on the issue of human rights today via Twitter, while naked.   Her message:  new age feminists don’t really want equal rights, and they actually belittle women who refuse to conform.  Although she doesn’t specify what those demeaned women are failing to conform to, she is not wearing any clothing, which may be a clue.

In December 2013, Rawlings addressed the issue of sex appeal in combat sports on Sirius XM Fight Club.  She said, “I think it’s a big part of women’s MMA, and any sport really . . . really we all judge people . . . I try to let my fighting do the talking . . . but I’m sure I’ve got a few fans because they like the way I look.”

She continued, “If people follow me because they like that I have tattoos or have crazy hair, then it doesn’t worry me why people follow me.  As long as I stay true to myself.  I always said I’ll never sell my soul.  I’ll never do a naked shoot or anything like that.  But to each their own.”

And so, Rawlings has recognized at least the supplemental marketing value of sex appeal in the arena of sports entertainment.  Given she is not wearing any clothes at all, she may be reacting against the “feminist” notion that a woman who embraces that potential somehow violates her female dignity and surrenders herself to a misogynistic culture.  Having read her sign several dozen times in the course of the last few minutes, I am still undecided, but will continue to reflect.
