Local Man Reminds His Friends That He Never Doubted Conor McGregor, Secretly Wipes Away Sweat

BOSTON, Massachusetts, January 19th, 2015 — There was a large sigh of relief last night for Michael Vendettouli, longtime fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, when Conor McGregor displayed brutal ground and pound against Dennis Siver, finishing him in the second round. Many, including Dana White, Lorenzo Fertita and Vendettouli had spent the last few months talking about how unstoppable Conor McGregor was and even making early comparisons to the star of a Roots of Fight t-shirt, Muhammad Ali.

Many in the MMA community were careful about slinging around such heavy accolades (considering McGregor still only has a Reebok t-shirt) as comparing him to a Roots of Fight great, but Vendettouli insisted to his friends and colleagues that McGregor was, and I quote, “the real deal.” A collective sigh of relief happened on Sunday evening after McGregor finished off Siver in dramatic fashion, Vendettouli’s demeanor going from tense to boastful in the matter of moments. Rounds of back-patting and told-you-so’s quickly ensued as Vendettouli was quick to remind his 42 Twitter followers that he had never doubted McGregor for a moment and welcomed the challenge that was laid down to Jose Aldo. In his tweets he tagged the famous MMA journalists Ariel Helwani, Kevin Iole and Luke Thomas to ensure maximum reach for his carefully-constructed tweets.

McGregor is still not without his critics, though, with many noting that the UFC has kept him away from grapplers for most of his tenure. Those worries were assuaged when Conor McGregor executed a few grappling maneuvers against the primarily stand up fighter that is Siver and lots of questions were hypothetically answered. For the time being, at least. Vendettouli was already placing bets against unwilling friends in the vicinity about how long a hypothetical fight between McGregor and Aldo would last, although it is still too early to tell when that fight will go down.

This is truly the pinnacle of the sport right here.
