Thanks Ray Rice: Metamoris may be the last hope for a Ronda Rousey and Bryan Caraway showdown

Everyone was disappointed today when Ronda Rousey said she was never going to fight a man.

It’s not a reality. They’re not gonna do anything like that. Fights are chaotic. Anything can happen. And there’s no setting in which we should condone a man hitting a woman.”

“I really just don’t think that any athletic commission on Earth would ever condone something like that. Fights are going to go both ways. You’re going to see both people hitting each other. I don’t think we should celebrate a man hitting a woman in any kind of setting”

But it isn’t a new revelation. Last October, Ronda Rousey explained the same sentiment to a Fox reporter, saying, “I don’t think it’s realistically a good idea at all.  Because MMA is already fighting to be accepted, especially with all the Ray Rice and all these things going on.  It’s never going to be a good thing to have a man hitting a woman on television or ever in any circumstance unless it’s the gym where I’m about to go train right now after this.”

Thanks, Ray Rice. Thanks a lot, man.

Because a couple years ago, Rousey said she would “love to beat the sh*t out of Bryan Caraway, but apparently it’s not legal. And he seems like the kind of b*tch that would sue me.” Caraway, best known as the boyfriend of Miesha Tate, had called Ronda an “unintelligent bimbo,” offering to “knock her teeth dwn her throat and break her arm.” Joe Rogan even supported the idea last October, saying, “I think if Ronda Rousey and Bryan Caraway talked enough sh*t and they decided to go at it, I don’t have any problem with that if they both agree to it.” But that was the same month Ronda was out talking about Ray Rice to a conservative news network.

Of course, the obvious solution is choosing an opponent who would be unlikely to hit her: someone like Kalib Starnes, who refuses to engage, riding his backwards bicycle until they clinch up tidily and roll into some oddly-angled armbar.  But that doesn’t make for much of a fight.  And so, the gender-themed question heard round gym water coolers after every Rousey event will probably never be answered.  But perhaps someone at Metamoris is having a lightbulb moment today, and the world could at least get a tasteful introduction to co-ed combat, without all the punching.
