Mixed martial arts will embrace its freak show past one more time at Bellator 138. You can’t outrun your past so the sport of MMA might as well hug the circus roots from which it was born. The bastard love child of professional cage fighting’s yesteryear will waddle to the cage this Friday night on Spike TV.
In 2015 former Miami backyard brawler Kimbo Slice is stepping into a cage with 51 year old former “World’s Most Dangerous Man” Ken Shamrock. This is sanctioned fight by a government funded state athletic commission. Bellator, a small entity in the massive Viacom corporate portfolio, has poured a ton of money and resources into promoting Bellator 138: Kimbo vs. Shamrock. Real money! The F*%$@*&^%**ing government!
At the weigh-ins Shamrock weighed 204 pounds with Kimbo at a brisk 232 pounds.
The ghosts of Brazilian Vale Tudo fights and the UFC 1 tournament are all doing fireball shots while Kimbo vs. Shamrock plays on a flat screen somewhere off in the distance. Unfinished Elite XC business is best for MMA business in 2015. We will all watch. Hopefully nobody gets seriously hurt.
.@ScottCoker is in the middle for a reason. @KimboSlice vs. @ShamrockKen, tomorrow night, live at 9/8c! #Bellator138 pic.twitter.com/0jYgbqx17s
