Holly Holm kind of looks like Amy Schumer if she was a fighter, don’t you think? What else is true of Holly Holm? She will very likely lose, and lose quickly to Ronda Rousey. This is not being disrespectful, this isn’t being mean, it’s just the truth. While Holly Holm is a fantastic fighter and respectful opponent for Ronda, it doesn’t mean she has any better of a chance as any of Ronda’s previous opponents. While Holm’s boxing resume is impressive, and her MMA resume is littered with the letters T, K and O, her quality of opponents simply haven’t been near the level of Ronda. A split-decision win over Racquel Pennington and a a decision over Marion Reneau is not a path paved to Ronda with the bones of fallen opponents.
But Miesha Tate, the only woman to take Ronda out of the first round is training with Holm. No one knows Ronda better than her. And Cris Cyborg, arguably the most dominant female MMA fighter and more than just an exposure-raising name to drop for Holly, is there as well. If Holm can hang with them in the gym, maybe she has a puncher’s chance. But would Ronda even toy with the boxing champ’s stand up? Probably not. If so, it will be a quick night once again.
