Blast to the Past: Robin Williams explains the origins of his daughter’s name, Zelda

My wife and I have been on a hardcore Robin Williams movie-watching marathon ever since Robin Williams hung himself earlier this week, and it’s been great. Many people are discussing the awful world of depression and what it does to people, possibly driving them to suicide, but I’m seeing things in a different light. Robin Williams decided to take his own life. His life. It wasn’t a selfish act, it’s just the most personal act anyone can perform. He didn’t want to live anymore, and we shouldn’t want to force someone who doesn’t want to live on this world to grind through the days just because of social paradigms. He lived an amazing, full life. I don’t have tears of sadness when I watch Hook, I have tears of joy because this great man was able to impact so many of our lives in such a special way.

Sorry, that got unintentionally deep. Don’t let my strange and morbid existential look at the world ruin the fact that Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda after one of his (and our) favorite games of all time.
