Now there’s no shame in being a grown man/woman/manwoman, and being terrified of what you’re about to see. I’d actually recommend you wrangle up some friends or loved ones before watching this, because you’re likely to never be the same again.
For those of you that have played the strangely warped P.T demo on the PS4, this should be right up your alley. It’s the first proper trailer. Silent Hills is a baby born out of horror. I’ve known and loved the series for a number of years but it went stale as is usually the case in the gaming world. Things needed shaking up, and how do you do that? Well Hideo Kojima decided to phone his good friend Guillermo del Toro, one of the most warped minds in Hollywood. His bigger films are Hellboy 1 & 2, Blade II and Pacific Rim – he’s also responsible for the idea behind, TV’s The Strain. del Toro’s own special effects studio really toys with what things should look like. It’s different, it’s out there. His earlier films are where he truly shined, Cronos, The Devil’s Backbone and easily the best fairy tale of all time, Pan’s Labyrinth.
Pan’s Labyrinth alone is proof that Guillermo del Toro should be guiding Silent Hills into a bold new direction. The core asthetic is still there, but they’re learning. Norman Reedus (Daryl from The Walking Dead) is the main protagonist in this grim, disgusting world that we currently know little about. You’re about to get a taste of what’s new. I see no Pyramid Head, but what’s coming for you doesn’t exactly look like a walk over.
