People who think MMA is violent have obviously never watched old school Vale Tudo. It’s like comparing an NBA matchup to a pick-up game of street ball where people call their own fouls. Everyone knows: You don’t call your own fouls in the hood (Bobby Green knows what I’m talking about). Doing so will only green-light a flurry elbows from a defender who’s casually boxing out. Soon after, a turnover leads to a flashy ally-oop, and you go home with a fat lip and a broken ego. That’s really off topic, but it explains where some of your favorite fighters in today’s combat sports got their education in martial arts. It also explains why some of those dudes from Brazil are as wild and exciting as you’ve come to expect them to be. Back then, they faced each other without weight classes, unified rules, gloves, doctors, or any sign of an athletic commission overseeing the contest.

In today’s Blast from the Past, we pay respects to old school Vale Tudo, in all its glory. If you don’t recognize some of these dudes, return your MMA fan card immediately.

Also, i think there should be a new MMA organisation ONLY for fighters on roids, because this reminded me how awesome Wand used to be. This Wand would not have been KO'd by Chris 'The Cripple' Leben.
