DirecTV waves goodbye to WEC

Bummer. Looks like that ridunkulous Bowles vs. Torres fight will be it for a few thousand people across America (I'm one of those people so today has an even heightened level of bummerness). Apparently the decision to yank Versus off of DirecTV stems from prior beef they have with Comcast (yeah, satellite companies have beef too). Check out DirecTV's official statement regarding the matter:

"They (Comcast) regularly try to charge us amounts well in excess of what is fair and reasonable to carry the programming they own,"

"Their reason is obvious: They want to stifle competition from DirecTV. Comcast's unfair terms undermines DirecTV's ability to offer our customers the best possible value. If we simply accept these terms, we would have to absorb the unreasonable costs Comcast wants to charge us, and in turn we will be forced to increase the rates our customers pay. We do not want this to happen. In fact, Comcast has forced us to remove Versus because we would not accept the terms they demanded."

If you listen quietly, you can hear Dana White leaning back in his chair signing those 'WEC/UFC merger contracts' right now. At least that's the current MMA conspiracy theory that's been floating around on the internets. We've seen the UFC cannibalize parts of the WEC when it absorbed the heavyweight and light-heavyweight classes (also scored them Brandon Vera in the process) so don't be surprised if at the LA press conference today, you'll hear White making a similar statement. If he does, you can hail me as a true MMA prophet and I'll rename myself to Zeusadamus. [Source]
