To be fair to Evans, Jones put him on notice with his elbows at short range.

The reality is that Jones was being effective DESPITE his reach (which was incorrectly assumed to be nullified at short distances). Jones made it clear that if Evans went for a haymaker, he risked being put down by a return shot that was already "sneaky" when Evans was standing perfectly still.

"Take the fight to him" is, as always, easier said than done.

Hendo is an awesome fighter but if he can get himself mounted multiple times by the likes of Shogun and Shields (though they are very good on the ground) then Jon Jones who is monstrously larger than either of those will dominate without even trying.

Also I highly doubt he could land an H bomb given that he is measurably slower than most of the light heavyweights Jones has faced recently.

Against the current top 10 HWs Jones would have a 7 in avg reach advantage.

He's 24, 6'4 with a MASSIVE frame, he is 230ish now (already big enough and more lean body mass than some ranked HWs) and he has two brothers that are elite athletes who weigh over 270 pounds.

.If he stopped eating/training for 205, he would be HUGE at HW. He has a 7.5 in reach advantage over the HW champ, and his frame has plenty of room to fill out.

He needs to stay at 205 until his striking is polished, NOT when he has beaten everyone worth fighting. Once his striking is developed there is no reason he won't run through HW in the same fashion.

Plus even if Bones doesn't admit it-you could tell Rashad was tiring him out. After the first round-that angry,cocky look he went into the fight with was gone and you could see as he stood across from Rashad at the beginning of each of the next 4 rounds-his face was just full of respect for Rashad. I think he expected to dominate Rashad and finish him early, but Rashad hung in. If only he had listened to Spong. I would really like to see them fight again, with Rashad heeding Spong's advice, just to see how it would go down then. I did not hate this fight at all. Rashad was a warrior I don't care what anyone says and Bones is just a phenomenal mixed martial artist.

Before the fight, everyone (including Evans) was saying that the *only* way to beat Jones was to get past his reach and press him on the inside.

Then, it turned out that getting closer to Jones only means you’re THAT much closer to his elbows.

Face it, folks: Jones was a LOT more effective at short range than everyone expected (conventional wisdom fail: "reach" doesn't cover all possible strikes). With every attempt at a haymaker, Evans stood a good chance of an excellent counter from an elbow that was already "sneaky" when Evans was standing perfectly still. Can you blame him for understanding the threat he faced with rushing in blind? Sure, I understand the "go hard or go home" sentiment, but to act like he just plain dropped the ball all by himself is ridiculous.

It's funny how much hate there is on Jones. I'm sure he could've finished Evans in the 1st round and everyone would hate. We are witnessing one of the best athletes there has ever been in MMA and he's not even at full potential. I'm going to sit back and enjoy him. I don't know why Evans didn't use any Uppercuts, Jones extends his arm to create distance, Evans ducks it under, and lands a huge enormous uppercut from the side, end of the fight. No one will beat Jones with these gameplans of "let's see what can i pull off", or you train something that works, or don't fight him, a 5'11 guy trying to almost box a beast like Jones? Evans had no cardio for his gameplan of "let's see if i'm lucky" C'mon. Hendo has nothing to beat Jones, but we'll not lose our hopes, him beating Jones would definitely be the biggest upset.

I was straight heated last night. I went to B.Dubs to watch the fight, was clapping as Rashad came out... and that's when my irritation started. The LOUDEST and most obnoxious guy in the bar looked over at me and started yellling "Oh, yeah!? Good night! Rashad shouldve put bones on his back like a cheap whore, the same way he put Rampage on his ass. King Mo has the boxing inside to make Bones weary of clinching and he DEFINITELY has the wrestling to take him down and smash him out.

Hendo, on the other hand, has a granite chin, h-bomb, experience, lack of front teeth, and not-give-a-fuck attitude to smash Bones in Bolivian. Bones might break his elbow on Hendos ugly mug. To beat Bones without taking him down you have to put the pressure on him. Walk him down and put his back on the cage and rough him up. Hendo can do that.

Give Rampage, Rashad, or Machida rematches and they could beat Bones too.
