Maybe Jens Pulver, Rich Franklin and everyone else in the MMA world was right -- Tim Sylvia should not have accepted the fight against Ray Mercer back in 2009. Ever since those fateful nine seconds inside the cage, Ray Mercer has been attached to Tim Sylvia's name like a parasitic organism attached to a space marine's face just before he was going to dine in the mess hall aboard a space ship. If you've seen the movie Aliens, then you would know the only person that can remove this stigma from Tim Sylvia is Sigourney Weaver through the use of flamethrowers and giant, yellow power loader mech. Tim Sylvia doesn't need a UFC contract, the dude needs Ellen Ripley to solve his problems.

In a promo for his upcoming bout against Randy Smith on June 16th in Lewiston, Massachusetts, Tim Sylvia states that leaving the UFC was his biggest regret and now that he's focused, he wants back into the organization and believes he's invincible at 265 lbs.

This guy went 5 fucking rounds with Randy Couture...how many of you pussies could last 30 seconds? He's 30-7 with losses to Frank Mir, Big Nog, Fedor, Arvlovski, Couture, Ray Mercer(pro boxer, who he tried to stand with, imagine Couture tried to stand with Toney...), and Abe Wagner which finally inspired him to get his shit together.

I'm not going to sit here and pretend he's a legend, but the guy has done his share for the sport. If he wins this fight I'd like to see him back in the UFC and eventually retire with the UFC.

The guys got 7 decision win's so regardless of how fat he is he's still gone the distance and won, his only decision loss is to Randy...

I think he could definitely beat some of the heavyweights in the division, I think Rothwell would be a good fight for him.

If he loses this fight against Randy Smith he's done for, but if he wins and looks semi good they need to let him back in. UFC can't be a "sport" if they cock block winners just because they don't "look good" doing it. I mean he'll never be as boring as a Jon Fitch fight cut the shit.

The reason why most people dont want to see him back in the ufc is because he is boring. While your argument sounds good it doesnt make watching him any more bearable.
As far as credibility, His reign in the ufc was during one of the worst heavyweight divisions in ufc history. He kept his belt by playing it safe whenever possible. And His last few 'outtakes' havent helped promote his dominance either.

He could absolutely win a few fights in an ugly fashion against some of the "division's elite."

I don't understand how the UFC wouldn't be into signing a pariah that would bring fans in just to see him get smashed. Advertise it like the James Toney fight. easy pickins.
