Hector Lombard is the reason why you wake up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat. Don't worry, he's not coming for you -- in fact you don't even register on his radar. Here's my advice for you: keep it that way. There's no need to make yourself known to Hector Lombard. Enjoy your relative low profile and bask in the fact that you will never have to be in the cage or ring with this human being, ever. It's just not healthy.

The Bellator incarnation of Hector Lombard was an unstoppable Frate Trane that made our list for months on end. Now this new UFC version of Hector -- egh, not so much. In his UFC debut, Hector lost a split-decision to Tim Boetsch at UFC 149 in a somewhat lackluster fight. According to Bellator's Bjorn Rebney, it was Hector who had the last laugh -- pocketing an estimated $700,000 in his UFC debut. Check out what Rebney told MMAFighting's Mike Chiappetta in a recent interview regarding Lombard.

It's a situation that is all too familiar for Rebney, who went through it six months ago with Hector Lombard, who was at the time Bellator's reigning middleweight champion. In that instance, Lombard hit the open market, where he was immediately offered a lucrative deal with the UFC.

Rebney said that contract, which according to him paid Lombard a $400,000 signing bonus, a $300,000 starting purse per fight and pay-per-view participation points, was cost-prohibitive from Bellator's standpoint.

At least now we know why Hector Lombard wasn't that bummed after his UFC 149 appearance brought a halt to his twenty-five-fight winning streak.

I understand the hype coming in, but that's a shitload of money for first UFC fight. Overeem contract made sense, hector wasn't exactly proven and not mainstream, more hardcore fans So draws equals dollars wise, it doesn't make sense.

Hector was a big fish in a little pond. He was brought over and given a fight that a lot of people perceived as an easy win for him, but going from Bellator to fighting a top 10 UFC MW is easier said than done.
Even though he lost, it's not the end of the world.
Dana isn't stupid, he wants to lure all the big fish from Bellator over, so Bellator will eventually flop.
400,000 bonus is no big deal for the UFC right now, and it hurts Bellator more to lose a star then it does UFC to lose an extra 400,000.
What that extra money buys, is a few years of deceased viewership over at Bellator. It's a win win for Dana, because if Hector does good, and becomes a marketable fighter, UFC makes money off of him, if he does awful he loses his appeal, and will only waste money for the next promotion who picks him up.

On one hand its fucking insane he got payed that much for just signing and 1st fight, but on the other, its about damn time MMA fighters are starting to get paid the big bucks, hell if dana can blow a 100K on blackjack, sure as fuck can start to pay his fighters some decent $$$.
Now if only BFC can get their shit together an hang on to some decent fighters, they might be able to make and pay the same type of cash, instead of languishing in the dark dark recesses of obscurity.
