Urban Cowboy: An apathetic Donald Cerrone is napping in an RV right now

Donald Cerrone is a real cowboy. He has the hat to prove it. And according to him, he isn’t even enjoying a Las Vegas hotel room before his fight this weekend. No, according to his interview with Ariel Helwani, he’s been sleeping in an RV four miles away from the MGM. He made the nine-hour drive in the vehicle from New Mexico.

“Most of the people there are older and retired, they don’t really know what’s going on,” he explained. He also explained the logistics of cutting weight in an RV trailer park. “Dance night with the old folks,” he said. That, and wakeboarding.

His opponent Eddie Alvarez recently called him a liar for claiming he hasn’t watched any film of his fights. Helwani questioned whether Cerrone was ever tempted at all to do so. “For my last fights I’ve just been lying to everybody?” he asked. “No, I don’t care.” He claims he’s only watched one Bellator fight in his life, and that one was in person.

I may be wrong, but Cerrone seems annoyed by the interview. Nonetheless, Helwani provokes, “Some people say, you get to these fights . . . Nate Diaz, Anthony Pettis, Dos Anjos . . . you get to these fights and then something happens. Is there any truth to that?”

“I guess if the shoe fits, wear it,” he says. “If the truth hurts, bear it . . . I don’t know what the problem is, we’ll see.” Does Cowboy care about anything? How about the championship belt? “Don’t give a shit,” he says. He also doesn’t care much about Khabib Nurmagomedov. “Sure I’ll fight him. Are you ready soon? ‘Cuz I don’t wanna wait.” He also doesn’t care what Khabib’s been saying about him. “I don’t read that shit.”

Khabib was injured before their last proposed fight, and Cerrone wasn’t impressed. ““This is the third time him and I have signed to fight and the third time that he’s pulled out,” he told Mike Bohn of MMAJunkie.  “I’m kind of bummed. I was really looking forward to that fight. But hey, what are you going to do? It’s bad luck. We were supposed to fight earlier in the year. One was called off because of Ramadan or whatever he has to do for his religion. He didn’t want to take the fight because it would put him during that period. The time before that I don’t really remember the logistics of it. Now he’s injured.”

Cowboy doesn’t even care to respond to Bobby Green’s accusations that he’s a racist. “Why would I give you the time to get any more publicity off my name? C’mon dude . . . What you need to do is go win some fights, get your name bigger, then maybe they’ll give you another shot at me.”

Nothing bothers Cowboy Cerrone. Maybe that’s why he has no trouble sleeping in a recreational vehicle. Tiny video below.
